Why can hair shedding happen?
Hair growth depends on nutrition, hormones, stress, genetics, and overall health. During substantial or rapid weight loss, more hairs can temporarily shift from the active growth phase into a resting phase. This is commonly called telogen effluvium.
It does not necessarily mean the GLP-1 medication is directly damaging the hair follicle. The overall changes happening in the body during weight loss may contribute to increased shedding for some people.
Nutrition matters
Protein, iron, zinc, vitamin D, and other nutrients play roles in normal hair growth. Your nutritional needs are individual, and supplements should be discussed with your healthcare provider rather than added automatically.
What can you do?
Do not panic or stop medication on your own. Talk with your healthcare provider so your care team can evaluate your rate of weight loss, nutrition, overall health, medications, and other possible contributors.
How Buena Health supports hair wellness
Depending on your individual needs, a provider-guided plan may include daily vitamin recommendations, prescription hair support when appropriate, hair and scalp wellness products, or hair-focused microneedling with exosome-based products. These options are not guaranteed treatments for hair loss.
The answer is to look at the whole picture: how quickly are you losing weight, are you getting enough protein and nutrients, are you staying active, and are you experiencing other symptoms?
At Buena Health, GLP-1 care is not just about reaching a number on the scale. It is about supporting your overall wellness throughout the process—including your hair.
Individual experiences vary. Hair shedding can have multiple causes and should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare provider. Exosome-based products and treatments are not FDA-approved to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.
